The Community Development Authority (CDA), in partnership with the University of Birmingham, has introduced a new training programme aimed at qualifying social workers across Dubai’s government agencies.

The initiative is designed to elevate the quality of social services and improve the well-being of the emirate’s residents, in line with the objectives of Dubai Social Agenda 33.

The launch event was attended by key figures, including Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai; Abdulrazaq Ameri, CEO of Irada Centre for Rehab and Treatment; and Sheikha Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.

The training programme focuses on equipping social workers with the latest global best practices, enhancing their ability to provide efficient support to diverse community segments. It will help build a skilled workforce that contributes to the sustainable development of Dubai, aligning with the broader goals of Dubai Plan 2033.

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director-General of the CDA, emphasized the programme’s role in fulfilling the strategic objectives of community development. She highlighted the importance of integrating advanced knowledge and research to continuously improve the social sector, benefiting both workers and the broader community.

The programme will begin with an introductory workshop for 121 professionals, including social specialists and counsellors, offering insights into the strategic goals of the initiative. It will also analyze skill gaps, review regulations, and develop targeted courses in areas such as child protection, elderly support, and social case management.

Dr. Anthony Murphy from the University of Birmingham expressed pride in partnering with the CDA, marking the start of a long-term collaboration aimed at fostering growth and excellence in social work.
