The Central Bank of the UAE has achieved a major governance milestone after receiving the BS 13500:2013 certification in Effective Governance Management Systems from the British Standards Institution.

The recognition highlights the regulator’s continued push to strengthen institutional performance and align with leading international governance standards.

The certification reflects the maturity of the Central Bank’s governance framework and reinforces its position as a trusted financial authority. It also signals a broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and robust regulatory oversight within the UAE’s financial system.

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, said the achievement reaffirms the institution’s focus on adopting the highest standards of corporate governance. He added that this strengthens the bank’s standing as a regulator built on trust and transparency.

The certificate was formally received by Ibraheem Al Sayed Mohamed Al Hashemi, Assistant Governor for Executive Office and Secretary General of the Board of Directors, from representatives of the British Standards Institution, marking the official recognition of the bank’s governance systems.

Al Hashemi said enhancing corporate governance is now a core requirement for institutional performance. He noted that it strengthens regulatory frameworks, embeds accountability, and supports financial system stability while reinforcing trust across the sector.

The certification confirms the Central Bank’s adoption of a comprehensive governance structure based on fairness, equality, transparency, and accountability. It is also expected to enhance decision-making quality and improve overall institutional efficiency.
