Dubai is accelerating the use of advanced aviation technologies to strengthen environmental protection efforts through a new partnership between the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority and Domus Group.
DECCA announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Domus Group, an events and conferences specialist in vertical aviation solutions and drone technologies. The agreement focuses on knowledge exchange and encourages local and international companies to introduce innovative aviation systems that support environmental sustainability in the emirate.
The MoU aligns with DECCA’s strategic priorities to enhance environmental research, promote innovation, and integrate advanced technologies into evidence-based policymaking. Through the partnership, DECCA aims to assess and adapt global best practices in drone technology to address Dubai’s specific environmental and climate needs.
Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director-General of DECCA, said technology has become a critical enabler of effective environmental action. He highlighted the role of drones in biodiversity conservation, monitoring and reporting systems, food security, and sustainable agriculture, noting that Dubai’s regulatory framework for unmanned aircraft supports their responsible deployment.
Domus Group Managing Director Maysoon Abu Alhoul said the company is committed to supporting Dubai’s leadership in technology adoption and environmental action. She added that the growing drone sector presents new opportunities to strengthen environmental protection across the emirate.
Drone technologies are already proving effective in environmental monitoring, offering high-precision surveys and mapping of mangroves, seagrass, coastal habitats, deserts, and mountain reserves. They also support air quality analysis, carbon sink assessment, shoreline mapping, marine sampling, and enforcement efforts, including the detection of environmental violations and unauthorised fishing.
The partnership is expected to further embed drone solutions into Dubai’s environmental strategy, supporting long-term sustainability and climate resilience goals.
