Desert Fortunes has been launched by PRHub.ae as a board game that highlights the emotional and professional realities of building a business in the UAE while promoting better mental health and work-life balance among entrepreneurs.

The game draws inspiration from the familiar Snakes and Ladders format and mirrors the unpredictable journey founders often face. It was introduced on 4 December and is designed to be enjoyed in social settings where reflection, connection, and cultural traditions play a central role.

Mental health remains a pressing issue in the startup world. Recent findings show that 72 percent of founders struggle with anxiety, burnout, or depression, while many employees report similar stress linked to their work environments. Board games are increasingly being recognised as a practical tool in workplace well-being programmes, with 78 percent of employees saying that gamified activities make their workdays more enjoyable and productive.

Desert Fortunes was created by local artist Amna Al Saleh of TEPINGI Design & Illustration and developed in collaboration with UAE-based partners including Startupbootcamp, Drinkit, and Tumodo. The board features symbols of innovation and culture such as the Burj Khalifa, the Museum of the Future, and karak chai to represent community and balance.

Gameplay mirrors real entrepreneurial experiences. Ladders celebrate milestones like funding or partnerships. Ropes highlight challenges such as regulatory delays or competition. Karak chai squares encourage players to pause before continuing.

PRHub CEO Vlada Lomova said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to mental health across the business community. Hani Murad, CEO at Rainmaking and Startupbootcamp MENAP, noted that the game captures the demanding yet rewarding nature of entrepreneurship.

The limited-edition board game will be shared with partners and startup accelerators, with selected previews planned at major business events across the UAE.
