Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in collaboration with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group, successfully planted 13,350 mangrove trees between February 2023 and February 2025 at the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary.

The initiative was part of 10 environmental events involving more than 1,650 volunteers, including DEWA employees, their families, and DEWA Academy students, contributing a total of 3,626 volunteer hours.

As part of the activities, volunteers also removed 3,546 kilograms of plastic waste and cleared eight tonnes of algae and seaweed from the sanctuary's beach. The campaign reflects DEWA’s broader sustainability goals and its commitment to biodiversity and climate action.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, noted the significance of native tree planting and nature-based solutions in fighting climate change. He highlighted the environmental impact of mangroves, which absorb carbon emissions at a rate nearly four times greater than tropical forests.
