Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has awarded a AED 289 million contract to reinforce Dubai’s water transmission network linked to the Hassyan water plant, a critical project supporting the emirate’s long-term water security.
The contract covers the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 32 kilometres of glass-reinforced epoxy main water transmission pipelines, each measuring 1,200 millimetres in diameter. The new infrastructure will connect to the Hassyan water plant, one of the world’s largest seawater reverse-osmosis facilities.
DEWA is developing the Hassyan project under the independent water producer model as part of its broader strategy to ensure reliable and sustainable water supplies. The new transmission lines are designed to enhance network resilience and expand capacity to meet rising demand across Dubai.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, said the Hassyan water plant is a cornerstone of Dubai’s water security system. He noted that the project aligns with the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030.
According to Al Tayer, the upgraded infrastructure will strengthen the efficiency and reliability of Dubai’s water network while supporting sustainability goals and long-term resource planning.
Construction works are expected to be completed within 18 months. Once operational, the new transmission lines will further reinforce Dubai’s advanced water infrastructure, ensuring stable water supplies for residents, businesses, and future development across the emirate.
