DEWA Commissions New Water Reservoir in Hatta to Boost Dubai’s Water Supply
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully commissioned a new desalinated water reservoir in Hatta, enhancing Dubai’s water storage capacity.
The 30-million imperial gallons (MIG) reservoir, part of a broader effort to support the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta, was constructed at a cost of AED 86 million. The project also included the development of supporting infrastructure and the extension of necessary pipes.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted that this new facility aligns with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, to boost sustainable development in the region. The new reservoir will help improve water flow, increase reserves, and ensure a reliable water supply to meet the growing demand in Dubai.
Al Tayer further emphasized DEWA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the emirate’s water infrastructure. Earlier this year, DEWA commissioned two other reservoirs in Lusaily and Enkhali, and a major 120 MIG reservoir is under construction in Hassyan. By the first quarter of 2025, DEWA’s total water storage capacity is expected to reach 1,121 MIG.
In addition, DEWA is undertaking a significant project to store six billion gallons of water in underground aquifers. This strategic reserve will ensure the availability of over 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day for up to 90 days in emergencies, safeguarding the city’s water security.
