The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully wrapped up the third cycle of its CleanTech Hackathon, attracting 193 applications from seven countries.
Organized as part of the ‘UAE Innovates 2025’ initiative, the hackathon brought together companies, university students, and experts in sustainable innovation to present solutions aimed at tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability.
This year’s cycle focused on innovative projects in desalination, decarbonization, digitization, energy efficiency, and carbon emission reduction, all integrating digital technologies into sustainable systems. The initiative aligns with DEWA’s goals under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai’s Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which targets 100% clean energy production by 2050.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized that the Sustainability and Innovation Centre serves as a global platform for innovators, investors, and experts to develop clean energy solutions.
Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, added that winning projects gain access to both local and global investors and are showcased at prominent events like the CleanTech Innovators Exhibition and the Cleantech Connect programme.
The winning projects include:
- Hueck Solar Energy (Germany) for concentrated solar power technology.
- Econano Water Treatment (UAE) for solar-powered water purification technology.
- Hydrowind Energy (UAE) for clean electricity and seawater desalination.
- Ecobeat (UAE) for AI-powered water and energy management.
- DoGood People (Spain) for a sustainability empowerment platform.
The CleanTech Hackathon continues to contribute to Dubai’s vision of becoming a global hub for clean and renewable energy technologies.
