Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) employees contributed 14,528 volunteer hours in the first half of 2024, benefiting 4,763,973 people in the UAE and internationally through 19 social initiatives.
This highlights DEWA’s commitment to balancing economic, environmental, and social goals within a robust framework for community service.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s dedication to promoting voluntarism and humanitarian work aligned with the UAE's cultural values and the Dubai Social Agenda 33.
“Humanitarian work is a core part of DEWA’s policy,”
he said, adding that the authority actively fosters a culture of giving through initiatives like iVolunteer and the Volunteer Diploma Programme, which trains employees to manage volunteering efforts locally and globally.
Key initiatives in 2024 included the Meer Al Khair Ramadan campaign, in collaboration with Al Ihsan Charitable Society, providing 831 food supply boxes to low-income families. Additionally, DEWA launched the Zayed Al Khair Well project in Malawi, benefiting over 10,000 people, and supported clean energy facilities in Benin. During Ramadan, 129 DEWA employees distributed daily Iftar meals across Dubai in partnership with the Watani Al Emarat Foundation.
DEWA also launched the third edition of its "For Generations to Come" initiative, distributing 2,500 school bags to underprivileged children, surpassing the previous year’s 1,700 bags. The organization actively involves employees' families in volunteering, with a dedicated training programme recording 4,457 hours since its inception.
From 2013 to 2023, DEWA launched 438 social initiatives, recording 232,973 volunteer hours globally. In 2023, societal happiness with DEWA reached 93.55%, underscoring its impactful community contributions.
