Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully commissioned 558 11 kV distribution substations across Dubai during the first half of 2024, announced HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

The construction and commissioning of these substations required a total of 420,350 man-hours, all completed with strict adherence to the highest standards of health and safety.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s ongoing commitment to supporting Dubai’s rapid development by ensuring a reliable and sustainable electricity supply. He emphasized that DEWA’s efforts align with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish Dubai as a model for advanced infrastructure.

The expansion of Dubai's electricity infrastructure is a key component of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. DEWA has already set global benchmarks, including recording the lowest electricity line loss of 2% and the lowest Customer Minutes Lost of just 1.06 minutes annually per customer in 2023.

Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, noted that the authority now operates 72 33 kV substations and 44,472 medium voltage substations, with ongoing efforts to enhance the electricity infrastructure using the latest digital technologies and maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental responsibility.
