DEWA continues to develop the Electric Vehicle (EV) Green Charger initiative as part of its efforts to promote green and sustainable mobility in Dubai.
It has developed innovative and pioneering technologies that offers a seamless and fast customer experience at over 300 Green Charger stations with more than 530 charging points across Dubai.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said,
“We continue to develop the EV Green Charger initiative using the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to encourage the use of eco-friendly vehicles. This supports the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world, as well as our efforts to consolidate Dubai’s position as a global hub for a green economy. Increasing the number of electric vehicles aligns with the Dubai Green Mobility initiative 2030, to encourage sustainable transport in line with the Emirate’s strategic objectives in terms of sustainability, air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The incentives launched by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, which DEWA is part of, along with other government entities, encourage green mobility in Dubai. Until the end of May 2021, there were 3,100 electric vehicles and 9,300 hybrid vehicles in Dubai,”
All EV users can now charge their vehicles at DEWA stations whether they are registered in the Green Charger initiative or not. DEWA caters to all users who drive electric vehicles in Dubai, including local and international visitors, by allowing them to charge their vehicles using the “Guest Mode” feature without the need to create an account with DEWA. They can access this feature using DEWA’s smart app or by scanning the QR code on the charging stations and following the steps on their device.
Customers registered in DEWA’s Green Charger service can begin charging their vehicle by using the Green Charger card or by using their smart device to scan the QR code at the charging station.
Customers can accurately locate charging stations through DEWA’s website and smart app as well as a variety of digital map platforms like Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare, Factual, What3Words and 2GIS; ride-share platforms like Careem; car navigation maps such as TomTom and Here Maps; as well as dedicated charging station platforms like Plugshare, Electromaps, and Yellowmaps.
DEWA provides its Green Charger services to EV owners within one hour of registering their vehicles at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). DEWA notifies customers electronically with the account details. They receive the Green Charger card within three business days. Customers can also register for this account on DEWA’s website or smart app.
DEWA has installed two ultrafast EV Green Chargers with a capacity of 150 kilowatts (direct current) at ENOC station, located at Expo 2020 Dubai and DEWA headquarters. This saves time and efforts contributing to the customer experience, with DEWA planning to install more ultra-fast chargers at key locations in Dubai. This will reduce the time needed to charge the vehicle, increasing the happiness of EV users.
DEWA has registered a new patent for a universal smart charging system that consists of a single cable and a plug for either AC or DC charging. The new innovation, developed at DEWA’s R&D Centre, makes the charging station’s design user-friendly and a one-stop point for all types of electric vehicles, as it automatically adapts the plug and the charging to the vehicle’s requirement.
DEWA contributes to promoting green mobility in the Emirate by providing incentives and facilitation to promote the use of electric vehicles while raising awareness on green transport. DEWA offers free charging for non-commercial EV customers registered in the EV Green Charger Initiative until 31 December 2021. This incentive is exclusively available at public charging stations and not home charging stations. Commercial customers pay 29 fils for every kilowatt-hour. RTA also provides incentives for electric vehicles, including free parking, reduced registration fees, and exemption from Salik tag fees.
