Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has strengthened the way it operates and monitors water networks by deploying advanced smart technologies supported by a robust digital infrastructure, enabling round-the-clock remote control and oversight of critical systems.

At the core of this upgrade is a UAE-patented Open Platform Communication Gateway that allows seamless data exchange between multiple water operational technology systems. The solution supports DEWA’s broader digital transformation agenda and aligns with international best practices for managing essential infrastructure.

The technology is currently in use within DEWA’s Water and Civil Division, where it has already delivered measurable benefits. These include reduced operational costs, faster implementation of procedures, improved data-sharing efficiency across systems, and quicker decision-making in time-sensitive operational environments.

According to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, the initiative reflects Dubai’s vision to build future-ready, sustainable cities through innovation. He noted that the solution reinforces DEWA’s global leadership in utilities management while supporting its investments in Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.

Developed using more than 2,500 lines of open-source Python code, the system operates with full redundancy, including primary and emergency disaster recovery command and control centres. It runs on fully redundant real-time application servers operating continuously and can process data from over 150,000 database entries in under 30 seconds.

Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President of Water and Civil at DEWA, said the platform integrates multiple operational data sources into a secure and resilient system, improving monitoring efficiency, reducing operational time, and enhancing overall network reliability. The advancement supports service sustainability as Dubai continues its rapid urban and infrastructure development.
