Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has significantly expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, now offering more than 740 Green Charger points across the city.

This network is part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and support the growing adoption of electric vehicles, which reached over 34,970 vehicles by October 2024.

The expansion is aligned with DEWA’s commitment to transforming Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world. Since the launch of the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014, DEWA has been providing a pioneering charging infrastructure to accommodate the increasing demand for electric vehicles. Customers can easily locate these charging stations through DEWA’s website, smart app, and other digital platforms.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted the importance of the initiative in achieving Dubai’s sustainability goals.

"The UAE aims to have 50 percent of the cars on its roads electric by 2050. This infrastructure supports Dubai’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by the same year,"

he said.

In addition to the expansion, DEWA has recently issued the first two Independent Charge Point Operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV. This move encourages private sector participation, further promoting green mobility and investment in sustainable infrastructure.

The EV Green Charger network includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers. Since its inception, the initiative has provided around 31,674 megawatt hours of electricity to electric vehicles, benefiting over 16,800 customers as of September 2024.
