Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has reinforced Dubai’s power infrastructure by commissioning 13 new 132kV substations in 2024, adding a conversion capacity of 1,950 megavolt amperes.

To integrate these substations into the main transmission network, DEWA installed 127 kilometers of ground cables. The total investment in 132kV transmission projects for the year reached AED 2.1 billion.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s commitment to meeting the rising electricity demand and supporting urban expansion in alignment with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

“We support citizens' housing and ensure a high quality of life for all Emiratis, in line with the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme,”

he stated.

The newly commissioned substations serve key residential areas, including Al Athbah, Nadd Hessa, Al Khawaneej 2, and Wadi Al Amardi, along with prominent zones such as Al Barsha South 4 and Jebel Ali Industrial First.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President of Transmission Power at DEWA, highlighted that the project was completed with over 12 million safe working hours, employing advanced global technologies while maintaining stringent safety standards. By the end of 2024, Dubai’s power grid will include 360 operational 132kV substations, with 37 more under construction, and 27 high-voltage 400kV substations, with two more underway.

DEWA’s strategic infrastructure expansion underscores its role in ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in urban development.
