Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating as the Sustainable Energy Partner of the World Governments Summit, which will be organised from 12 to 14 February 2024.
The Summit is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’.
On the second day of the summit, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, will deliver a keynote speech at 1:05 pm, titled ‘Global Energy Transitions.’ Al Tayer will talk about the factors that affect the energy markets, effective decarbonisation solutions, the importance of research and development, and clean and renewable energy technologies such as green hydrogen, which some describe as the “fuel of the future. He will also highlight energy storage solutions, and enhancing efficiency, among other topics.
These topics align with the global transitions in the energy sector and the increasing reliance on clean and renewable energy sources. Additionally, Al Tayer will address the growing focus on decarbonisation and strengthening climate action as many countries and regions have set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase the share of renewable and clean energy and investment in their projects. He will also talk about the significance of the geopolitical factors and the implications of the Russia-Ukraine war on the energy markets. He will also talk about nuclear fusion, which is a source of clean and almost unlimited energy, despite the great challenges that still have to be overcome, especially the disposal of radioactive waste.

During its participation in the World Government Summit, DEWA highlights its prominent clean and renewable energy projects including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a planned production capacity of 5,000MW by 2030. DEWA will also highlight its pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta with a planned production capacity of 250MW and the first station of its kind in the GCC region, as well as other pioneering projects and innovative initiatives in clean and renewable energy.
