Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently participated in a significant campaign to plant mangrove trees at the Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary.
The initiative, organized in collaboration with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG), aims to plant 4,500 mangrove trees, bolstering efforts to protect natural marine habitats.
Accompanied by DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and senior officials from various subsidiaries, Al Tayer highlighted the importance of this initiative. He stated,
“In line with the directives of our wise leadership and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, we are committed to supporting biodiversity and protecting natural habitats. This campaign aims to engage society in preserving our precious natural resources, planting trees, and improving water quality.”
The event saw active participation from DEWA employees, their families, and students from DEWA Academy, fostering a strong community spirit dedicated to environmental stewardship. Al Tayer praised the increased involvement in DEWA’s campaigns, emphasizing their impact on promoting sustainable practices.
In 2023, DEWA successfully planted over 5,500 mangrove trees at the same sanctuary, with the support of 1,000 employees and their families. Participants contributed a remarkable 2,080 volunteering hours, achieving a satisfaction rate of 92.9% regarding the campaigns. Additionally, DEWA has effectively removed 3,100 kilograms of waste and collected eight tonnes of algae and seaweed for scientific research.
Through these efforts, DEWA is championing the national initiative to plant 100 million mangrove trees in the UAE by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to combating climate change and preserving coastal ecosystems.
