Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) generated 45.14 terawatt-hours (TWh) of power during the first three quarters of 2024, marking a 5.49% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

This growth reflects Dubai's robust economic and developmental momentum, as well as DEWA’s commitment to meeting the rising demand for energy in the Emirate.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the importance of aligning with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of the Emirate’s economy over the next decade, and the UAE’s ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.

“We are committed to keeping pace with the steady increase in demand for energy and water and the growth in population and visitor numbers in Dubai. We support promoting the strong economic performance of the Emirate and building the world's best and most active economy. This strengthens our global position and ensures that we continue to deliver our services according to the highest standards of availability, reliability, efficiency, and sustainability,”

said Al Tayer.

Operational Excellence and Sustainability

DEWA achieved its best-ever summer gross heat rate of 7,923 BTU/kWh, reflecting its commitment to operational efficiency and sustainability. In the third quarter of 2024, DEWA’s total installed generation capacity reached 16.779 gigawatts (GW), with clean energy accounting for 17% of the total capacity. Al Tayer reiterated DEWA’s focus on maintaining a sustainable generation mix to meet the growing energy demand while supporting Dubai’s clean energy goals.

World-Class Performance

DEWA’s achievements continue to surpass major European and American utilities in key performance indicators. In 2023, DEWA set a new global benchmark by achieving the lowest electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) per year, recording just 1.06 minutes per customer. This is a stark contrast to the 15-minute average reported by leading utility providers in the European Union.

These milestones highlight DEWA’s pioneering role in developing world-class infrastructure and its unwavering dedication to operational excellence, sustainability, and supporting Dubai’s rapid economic and population growth.
