HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), recently reviewed the progress of the second phase expansion of the Green Data Centre, a key project by Data Hub Integrated Solutions (Moro Hub), a subsidiary of DEWA's digital arm, Digital DEWA.

Inaugurated in 2023 by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the facility holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s largest solar-powered data centre, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park.

Al Tayer, accompanied by senior DEWA officials, including Marwan Bin Haidar and Waleed Bin Salman, was briefed on the developments at the centre. The project, which aligns with the UAE’s vision for sustainability, exemplifies the combination of advanced digital technologies with renewable energy. The centre is fully powered by solar energy and aims to support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which targets 100% clean energy by 2050.

The Green Data Centre, which will be developed in 10 phases, will have a total capacity of 100 megawatts and cover 100,000 square metres. It has already achieved the prestigious "Tier-III" certification from the Uptime Institute. As a model for sustainable ICT infrastructure, it offers services in cloud computing, cyber security, IoT, and AI, empowering businesses to reduce their carbon footprint and embrace next-generation digital solutions.

This landmark facility strengthens Dubai's position as a global leader in sustainability and digital transformation, setting a global standard for carbon-neutral data centres.
