Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has achieved the lowest electricity Customer Minutes Lost (CML) globally in 2024, recording just 0.94 minutes per customer.
This surpasses its previous record of 1.06 minutes in 2023 and significantly outperforms the average 15 minutes reported by leading European utility companies.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, attributed this achievement to Dubai’s strategic vision and technological advancements.
"Guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we continue to enhance Dubai’s electricity and water infrastructure with innovation as a key driver. Our smart and interconnected network ensures the highest standards of quality, reliability, and sustainability, supporting the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33),"
Al Tayer stated.
DEWA has drastically reduced CML from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to 0.94 minutes in 2024. The authority credits this success to its AED 7 billion Smart Grid initiative, set to be completed by 2035. The grid features advanced energy transmission and distribution efficiency, reduced losses, and improved load management. Among its key innovations is the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration System, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. This AI-powered system autonomously detects and isolates faults, restoring services without human intervention.
DEWA's commitment to smart solutions was further recognized at the Asian Power Awards 2024 in Singapore, where it received the ‘Innovative Power Technology of the Year - UAE’ award for its Actual Load Profiles Simulator (ALPS) and the ‘Smart Grid Project of the Year - UAE’ award for its Distribution Automation Smart Grid projects. These accolades highlight DEWA’s leadership in smart energy management and technological innovation.
