Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has won the Innovative Power Technology of the Year UAE award at the Asian Power Awards 2025, recognising its in-house developed DERASAT digital platform for advancing power grid analytics and operational efficiency.
The award, one of the region’s most respected honours in the energy sector, was presented at a ceremony held at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It highlights DEWA’s growing role in digital innovation within utility operations and smart energy management.
DERASAT, which means Studies in Arabic, was developed internally to enhance power grid data analysis and decision-making. According to DEWA, the platform has automated 95 percent of its monthly reporting process, enabling peak load reports for more than 4,500 medium voltage network rings and nearly 10,000 feeders to be delivered by the second working day of each month. This represents an eight-day improvement over previous timelines.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DEWA, said the platform reflects the authority’s commitment to fostering innovation and empowering employees to develop advanced digital solutions that meet global standards. He noted that DERASAT transforms operational data into accurate analytical tools that directly support efficiency, cost control, and service sustainability.
The platform has generated AED3.5 million in savings compared to outsourced automation, reduced annual operating costs by AED1.1 million, and eliminated 95 percent of manual work, saving 254 man-hours each month. It also replaces fragmented spreadsheets with centralised reporting accessible to more than 90 users.
Equipped with features such as 30-minute load profiling, automated ring analysis, and spike detection, DERASAT offers insights unavailable in commercial systems. Its proprietary algorithms have been granted intellectual property rights by the UAE Ministry of Economy, reinforcing DEWA’s leadership in digital utility innovation.
