DEWA’s R&D Centre registers new patent for condensation measurement apparatus
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) Research & Development Centre has registered a new patent for an innovative device for measuring the amount of water that can be extracted from the air during the condensation process and analysing the performance of automated water production systems from air humidity.
The device includes a set of condensing materials, thermoelectric coolers, a device to take photos of condensed drops, and a computer to analyse the shape of the drop, using Artificial Intelligence to estimate the shape and size of the condensation, and calculate the expected amount of condensation.
The cost of the new technology is relatively low in addition to having a higher sensitivity in evaluating the performance of water production systems from the atmosphere, which helps to measure the characteristics of the environment surrounding the moisture condensing devices to determine the potential condensing efficiency.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that the new patent proves the R&D’s role in finding sustainable and innovative solutions for water scarcity and pollution worldwide. This is by contributing to sustainable development and preserving natural resources as well as ensuring a brighter future for generations to come. He added,
“We strive to provide a motivating environment for creativity and innovation to achieve the UAE Centennial 2071 to make the UAE the world’s leading nation. This is to achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This is also in accordance with the UAE Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world; and the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. DEWA provides a positive, healthy, and safe work environment that encourages innovation and unleashes the potential of employees. This would raise individual and corporate efficiency according to the best global practices to keep pace with rapid changes and contribute to anticipating and shaping the future. We work to harness innovation and the latest technologies to promote DEWA’s excellence and leadership as one of the best utilities worldwide and achieve our vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation.”
Eng. Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA said,
“The R&D Centre aims to become a global platform for promising technologies, to maintain DEWA’s position at the forefront of utilities worldwide. The Centre will enrich the academic scholarship in Dubai, the UAE and the world through disseminating knowledge, and nurturing Emirati talents.”
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Aleeli, Vice President-R&D, Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, said that the R&D Centre has 43 researchers, including 29 PhD and master’s degree holders. Since its launch, the Centre has published 84 research papers in international scientific conferences, journals and peer-reviewed publications. This is the third patent registered by the centre with three more underway.
