In a strategic move to elevate Dubai’s status as a premier global healthcare destination, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) have signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

This agreement, formalized by His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, and His Excellency Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of DHA, marks a significant step in strengthening Dubai’s global medical tourism sector.

The MoU underscores a mutual commitment to enhancing the emirate’s healthcare landscape by improving operational efficiency, competitiveness, and transparency. It aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, aimed at making Dubai the world’s leading destination for business and leisure. Key objectives include fostering innovation, attracting investments, and hosting major global medical conferences.

Helal Saeed Almarri emphasized the MoU's role in supporting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, stating it will help consolidate Dubai’s position as a top-tier destination for high-quality healthcare and overall well-being. The agreement seeks to attract significant investments in healthcare and promote Dubai’s exceptional medical services to a global audience.

Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi highlighted Dubai’s advancements and resources that have bolstered its international healthcare standing. The MoU aims to leverage these strengths to boost medical tourism, enhance knowledge exchange, and attract global healthcare investments.

The partnership also supports the Al Safeer Congress Ambassador Programme, which aims to bring international conferences to Dubai and enhance the city’s global medical tourism profile.

Dubai’s medical tourism sector has seen substantial growth, with 691,478 international patients visiting in 2023, up from 674,000 in 2022. Healthcare spending surpassed AED 1.034 billion, reflecting Dubai’s growing appeal as a top destination for medical care and its positive impact on the economy.
