The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has adopted new mental health service standards, aligning with global best practices to enhance the emirate’s mental healthcare system.
Integrated Mental Health Approach
The new standards introduce a multidisciplinary framework, fostering collaboration between doctors, psychologists, and nurses to provide comprehensive, patient-centric care. They also integrate digital health solutions and teletherapy, ensuring high-quality virtual psychological consultations while prioritizing patient confidentiality and accessibility.
Global Benchmarking & Evidence-Based Care
Developed in coordination with global health organisations, including Health Standards Organization/Accreditation Canada, the new standards incorporate evidence-based therapeutic protocols from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
Key objectives include:
- Establishing clear licensing and registration procedures to ensure qualified professionals deliver care.
- Defining specific roles and responsibilities to improve service efficiency.
- Creating age-inclusive mental health services for children, adolescents, and the elderly.
- Expanding training and professional development for mental health specialists, keeping them aligned with the latest advancements in the field.
Commitment to Mental Health Innovation
Dr. Younis Kazim, Acting CEO of DHA’s Health Regulation Sector, emphasized that these updates reinforce Dubai’s vision for a progressive and sustainable mental health system. He highlighted DHA’s commitment to fostering an innovative and supportive environment for mental health professionals while ensuring the highest quality of care for all residents.
This initiative is a major step in advancing Dubai’s mental health framework, ensuring services remain globally competitive and locally relevant, contributing to a healthier, more resilient society.
