DMCC has confirmed its intention to join the Natural Diamond Council (NDC) in 2026, aligning the world’s largest diamond trading hub with the industry body leading global category marketing for natural diamonds as the sector seeks to strengthen consumer confidence and stabilise demand.

The announcement was made at Mining Indaba in Cape Town during the second high-level meeting of the Luanda Accord, a framework signed in Angola in June last year that commits producer governments and industry participants to collective investment in promoting natural diamonds. The accord is led by the NDC and brings together major stakeholders, including DMCC and De Beers Group.

The meeting was overseen by ministers from Angola, Botswana, Namibia, and Sierra Leone, reflecting continued government engagement in the initiative. At the same gathering, Namibia formally acceded to the Luanda Accord, while India’s Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a pathway to join the NDC by May 2026.

DMCC’s move comes at a time of structural pressure for the diamond sector, as shifting consumer preferences, increased competition, and rising scrutiny around provenance and responsible sourcing reshape global demand. By joining the council, DMCC said it aims to support coordinated efforts to rebuild consumer trust and strengthen long-term demand for natural diamonds.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and CEO of DMCC, said the decision reflects both Dubai’s scale in the global diamond trade and its responsibility to support the future of the sector through transparency, responsible sourcing, and sustained consumer confidence.

Membership of the NDC remains subject to agreement on financial contributions and completion of internal legal and regulatory processes. Collectively, the latest commitments signal a widening international push to reinforce generic global marketing for natural diamonds and support the industry’s long-term resilience.
