DP World and Einride Launch Electric Freight Solution at Jebel Ali Port to Drive Sustainable Logistics
DP World has unveiled a groundbreaking electric freight solution at Jebel Ali Port in partnership with Einride, marking a significant step in its commitment to decarbonizing terminal operations.
This cutting-edge electric fleet, operating around the clock, is set to handle over 204,000 twenty-foot containers annually, accelerating the transition to greener logistics.
The collaboration, initiated in May 2024, aims to electrify inter-terminal container movements at Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East. The initiative aligns with DP World’s broader sustainability goals, including electrifying its internal terminal vehicle fleet and pioneering innovative partnerships to reduce emissions.
By reducing 14,600 tonnes of CO2e annually compared to diesel operations, the project contributes to DP World’s science-based targets and supports its net-zero ambition. Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO of DP World GCC, emphasized the importance of decarbonizing logistics, with Jebel Ali Port setting a global benchmark for transport electrification.
Robert Falck, CEO of Einride, highlighted that this is the first milestone in deploying the region's largest electric, autonomous freight mobility network. The partnership showcases the UAE’s commitment to leading the sustainable transition with innovative solutions.
The multi-phase rollout integrates Einride's electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and AI-powered operating system, Einride Saga. A second wave will deploy later this year, with the full fleet operational by 2026, capable of handling 2 million twenty-foot containers annually.
This initiative reinforces the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 vision, positioning Jebel Ali Port at the forefront of global trade hubs in clean mobility.
