DP World has begun rolling out a cutting-edge Port Community System (PCS) in Kenya, a move set to transform trade operations at the Port of Mombasa and strengthen East Africa’s position in global commerce.
Developed with EMEA Port Logistics and implemented in partnership with the Kenya Ports Authority and the Government of Kenya, the PCS introduces a unified digital platform that streamlines cargo handling and clearance. The system enhances visibility, accelerates processing times, and enables real-time coordination among port stakeholders.
Although DP World does not operate the Port of Mombasa, the new system allows importers, exporters, freight forwarders, transport companies, and customs agents to manage transactions through digital tools covering tracking, gate bookings, billing, payments, and live updates.

Mahmood Albastaki, Chief Operating Officer of Digital Trade Solutions at DP World, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to advancing Africa’s digital trade infrastructure. He noted that digitisation is vital to unlocking Africa’s trade potential and positioning its ports for future growth.
Once fully deployed, the PCS is expected to reduce cargo clearance times by up to 30%, improving efficiency for over 3,000 port users each year. The Kenya Ports Authority anticipates that the system will streamline gate operations, reduce dwell times, and bolster Mombasa’s role as a key maritime hub linking East and Central Africa to global markets.
The PCS rollout builds on DP World’s broader collaboration with Kenya’s government through the eCitizen platform, furthering efforts to digitalise trade and government services and drive greater transparency and competitiveness across the region.
