DP World is set to transform fresh produce exports from Morocco to the UK and Northern Europe with a new shipping service that reduces transit times by up to two days while cutting carbon emissions by 70%.

The “Atlas” service, starting November 2025, will link Agadir and Casablanca with London Gateway and Antwerp Gateway using two dedicated vessels. The route will transport up to 150,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually, providing retailers and consumers with fresher produce at lower cost.

By shifting cargo from road to sea, the service avoids delays, congestion, and border issues along the 3,000+km overland route. Delicate items such as tomatoes and blueberries benefit from smoother handling, while emissions drop by up to 250kg CO₂ per ton-kilometre.

DP World has invested in 1,250 modern refrigerated containers and additional dry cargo units, supported by its CARGOES digital platform for full supply chain visibility. The service also bypasses congestion on the Tangier–Algeciras and Calais–Dover crossings, offering a more reliable and sustainable alternative for exporters.

Morocco exports over 6.5 million metric tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually to Western Europe, with volumes growing more than 20% year-on-year. Trade agreements and supportive policies have made sea freight a timely option for the expanding market.

DP World Europe CEO Rashid Abdulla said the service combines “reliability, fast transit times and a modern IT platform” to ensure high-quality produce with lower costs and reduced carbon emissions.

The service will be officially launched at an event in Agadir on 18 September.
