DP World has signed a 15-year concession agreement with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) to operate and maintain the New Mooring Container Terminal at Chittagong Port, a move aimed at lifting terminal performance and strengthening Bangladesh’s trade links with global markets.

The deal covers the terminal and its Overflow Container Yard and was signed under a Public-Private Partnership framework. CPA Chairman Rear Admiral S. M. Moniruzzaman and DP World Executive Chairman Essa Kazim signed the agreement in the presence of Bangladesh’s Minister of Shipping Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury and DP World Group CEO Yuvraj Narayan.

The terminal will remain owned by the CPA, while DP World takes responsibility for its operation and maintenance. The agreement builds on a 2019 Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Dubai and Bangladesh’s Public-Private Partnership Authority, which focused on advancing strategic infrastructure projects.

The development plan includes upgrades to civil and equipment infrastructure, along with digital solutions and operational improvements to speed up cargo handling. Working with the CPA, DP World will concentrate on berth planning, yard management, equipment use, preventive maintenance, safety and sustainability.

Moniruzzaman said the partnership will ease logistics constraints and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in regional and global supply chains. Kazim said DP World will connect the terminal to its global network of ports and logistics services, creating more seamless links between Bangladesh and international markets. Chowdhury said the goal is to move trade at global speed.

DP World operates more than 60 ports and terminals worldwide and handles nearly 10% of global container traffic. The partnership is also expected to support local workforce and skills development and open more opportunities for Bangladeshi businesses and workers in international supply chains.
