DP World Sokhna has reported a record-breaking 285,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first quarter of 2025—the highest quarterly volume since the port began operations nearly 20 years ago.

The milestone marks a 26% increase over projected volumes, highlighting the port’s expanding role in driving regional trade and supporting Egypt’s economic development. A surge in refrigerated container exports, particularly citrus, played a key role in the boost, positioning Egypt as a leading global exporter of perishable goods.

Since assuming operations in 2008, DP World has invested over $1.3 billion to modernise Sokhna Port. Upgrades include deep-water berths for larger cargo vessels, advanced cold chain logistics, and digital infrastructure to improve cargo management for businesses.

“This level of growth clearly demonstrates Ain Sokhna Port’s rising importance as a logistics hub, not only for Egypt, but for the wider region,”

said Avnash Iyer, COO and Acting CEO, Egypt, DP World. He added that ongoing investments, including the upcoming Sokhna Logistics Park, aim to meet the needs of Egypt’s fast-growing market.

The port’s enhanced capacity to handle temperature-sensitive goods is proving critical for Egypt’s agriculture exports. With world-class cold storage facilities and efficient logistics, Sokhna is strengthening its role in connecting local producers to international markets.

DP World’s continued expansion in Egypt, through both port operations and logistics infrastructure, reinforces Sokhna’s position at the centre of an integrated trade ecosystem linking Egypt to global supply chains.
