Dubai welcomed 18.72 million international overnight visitors in 2024, marking a 9% increase from the previous year and surpassing the 2023 record of 17.15 million, according to data from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET).
This outstanding achievement reflects the city’s strategic focus on becoming a global hub for business and leisure under the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, aimed at doubling the city's economy by 2033.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, attributed the growth to visionary leadership, public-private sector collaboration, and a commitment to innovation. He emphasized Dubai’s focus on attracting foreign investment and global talent, which is pivotal for sustained economic and tourism growth.
"Dubai’s remarkable performance in 2024 is a direct result of dynamic global partnerships, innovative marketing campaigns, and a focus on diversifying the tourism experience,"
said Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DET. He highlighted the city's strategic growth across various sectors, including hospitality, infrastructure, and global events.
Dubai's hotel sector also saw impressive growth, with over 154,000 rooms available across 832 establishments, reflecting the city’s ability to meet rising demand. Notable hotel openings such as One&Only One Za’abeel and The Lana Dorchester Collection contributed to the sector's success. The city’s average hotel occupancy reached 78.2%, while the Average Daily Rate (ADR) and Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) also showed significant growth.
2024 was marked by Dubai’s strategic partnerships with major global brands and celebrities, enhancing the city's tourism appeal. Campaigns like 'Dubai, What’s Not To Love?' and 'If You Go, You Know' have kept the city at the forefront of international travel destinations. Moreover, Dubai’s hosting of major events such as GITEX Global and the Dubai Shopping Festival was key in attracting international visitors.
Additionally, Dubai’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination has been reinforced by its standing in global indices, including being named the world's safest city by Numbeo and maintaining its top position in city cleanliness.
Looking ahead to 2025, Dubai is set to continue its momentum, strengthening its position as a leader in global tourism, business, and innovation.
