Dubai Executive Council has approved the 'Suspended Transport Systems Project,' a state-of-the-art smart mobility initiative spanning 65 kilometers.

This ambitious project aims to connect key areas, including Umm Suqeim Street, Al Khor, and Zabeel, marking a strategic step in bolstering Dubai's leadership in various sectors over the next decade.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, highlighting the project as part of a series of plans designed to elevate Dubai's position as a global hub for innovation and transport. The new system is set to significantly increase the share of autonomous or driverless public transport journeys in the emirate, targeting 25% of all trips by 2030.

“The suspended transport system will also be integrated with other modes of transportation to help people move around the emirate efficiently and sustainably,”

DMO officials stated, emphasizing the system’s role in enhancing overall urban mobility.

While further details regarding the technical specifications of the suspended transport system remain limited, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has previously showcased mock-up models of the Dubai Sky Pods at a government summit. These innovative pods are designed to utilize suspended transport technology, traveling along elevated beams that criss-cross the city.

One of the standout features of the sky pods is their ability to maintain a horizontal position even on inclines, preventing the 'roller-coaster' effect often associated with elevated transport systems. This design aims to ensure a comfortable ride for passengers, dubbed “a calm stomach” experience. Moreover, as the pods rise above ground level, passengers can expect to enjoy breathtaking views of Dubai’s skyline and urban landscape, offering a unique perspective of the city.
