Dubai’s leadership has approved a comprehensive master plan to redevelop Umm Suqeim Beach, positioning it as a world-class destination that blends leisure, culture, and sustainability.
The AED500 million project will expand the beach, enhance infrastructure, and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a leading global tourism hub.
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, announced the approval, highlighting the project’s alignment with Dubai’s commitment to quality of life, innovation, and sustainable urban development.
Spanning 3.1 kilometres and covering 445,000 square metres, the redevelopment will increase beach space by 30 per cent and include smart lighting for night activities. The plan incorporates social, environmental, and traffic studies alongside community engagement to ensure balanced integration of tourism, leisure, and environmental preservation.
The upgraded beach will accommodate six million visitors annually and feature enhanced parking, revamped road access, six main architectural gateways, 10 mobility hubs, and 11 taxi points. Facilities for bicycles, electric scooters, and a 38-metre observation tower reflecting Dubai’s maritime heritage are also planned.
Sustainability is central to the project, with climate adaptation measures such as a two-kilometre retaining wall, elevated beach levels, and an AI-powered smart facilities management system. The plan supports Dubai’s Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and the 2040 Urban Master Plan, promoting inclusive public spaces while safeguarding the surrounding environment.
Dubai Municipality emphasises public-private partnerships in delivering the project, aiming to boost the emirate’s tourism economy and create a distinctive Emirati beach destination that serves residents and visitors alike.
