Several people in the UAE lost their license plates during the extreme weather that occurred on April 15 and 16.
After bottlenecks and flooding, things returned to normal, but many drivers had one urgent question: Can people who lost their license plates in Dubai temporarily use their cars?
According to Dubai Police, drivers are only allowed to use their cars
"when they go to the RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) to collect a new car plate."
Authorities clarified vehicle owners must first apply for a "To Whom It May Concern" certificate, which can be done online via Dubai Police website.
Residents no longer have to take their cars to the police station in order to get a "To Whom It May Concern" certificate for vehicles registered in Dubai that have been damaged by floods or other natural catastrophes. All they need to do is email a picture of the car that is damaged.
The owner of the vehicle can pick up the replacement license plate at any RTA Customer Happiness Center or Vehicle Registration and Inspection Center after receiving an electronic copy of the certificate.
Dubai Police stated,
"Motors can use their cars temporarily without getting any fines."
Drivers in Dubai are required to make sure their license plates are legible and clear. Operating a vehicle without a license plate or one that is damaged is punishable by a steep punishment of up to Dh3,000 and 23 points.
Not too long after the United Arab Emirates saw its heaviest day of rain in seventy-five years, numerous number plates are still visible on some of the city's side streets, particularly in places that witnessed extensive flooding.
