Dubai Central Laboratory has unveiled the world’s first smart self-service device for testing the purity of gold, silver, and platinum, marking a significant step in Dubai’s ambition to remain a global hub for precious metals trade.

The device delivers accurate results in under one minute using advanced spectroscopic analysis, X-ray technology, and artificial intelligence.

The innovation was introduced at GITEX Global 2025 through a collaboration between Dubai Central Laboratory and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, which represents traders, manufacturers, and industry professionals. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging smart technologies to enhance customer experiences and strengthen Dubai’s position in international markets.

Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafi, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the device’s transformative impact on testing services. She said it sets a new global benchmark for speed, accuracy, and reliability, ensuring Dubai’s laboratory services remain among the most advanced worldwide.

Eng. Hind Mahmoud Ahmed, Director of Dubai Central Laboratory, emphasized the device’s intelligent design, which allows autonomous operation with remote monitoring, self-calibration, and rapid emergency response. The system integrates seamlessly with existing digital infrastructure to maintain consistent and high-quality results.

The first device will be installed at the Gold Souk in Deira, with plans for a phased rollout across key locations in Dubai. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to create a fully integrated testing ecosystem, supporting product safety, compliance, and consumer confidence in both local and imported precious metals.

Dubai Municipality continues to prioritize innovation in laboratory services, ensuring residents, visitors, and businesses benefit from cutting-edge solutions that meet evolving market demands and uphold the emirate’s global competitiveness.
