Dubai Chamber of Commerce has announced that 5,357 ATA Carnets were issued and received in 2024, facilitating the duty-free and tax-free temporary import of goods valued at AED 4.3 billion.

This reflects Dubai’s growing prominence as a global hub for exhibitions, conferences, and events.

ATA Carnets, often referred to as “merchandise passports,” enable the temporary cross-border movement of goods for up to one year without incurring customs duties. These documents play a crucial role in streamlining international trade fairs by allowing businesses to import commercial samples, professional equipment, and exhibition materials seamlessly.

Khalid AlJarwan, Vice President of Commercial and Corporate Services at Dubai Chambers, emphasized the significance of the ATA Carnet system in simplifying customs procedures, making Dubai an attractive destination for global events. The system, developed in collaboration with Dubai Customs, the Federal Customs Authority, and UAE chambers of commerce, enhances trade efficiency while reducing costs for businesses.

Established under the Istanbul Convention of 1990, the ATA Carnet system allows exporters to save on VAT and customs duties while eliminating the need for security deposits. It also enables business travelers and exhibitors to visit multiple countries using a single document, ensuring smooth border crossings and efficient customs clearance.

By facilitating hassle-free trade and international participation, Dubai Chamber of Commerce continues to strengthen Dubai’s position as a leading global business and events destination.
