Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), revealed Dubai's Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy 2030, approved by the Dubai Executive Council led by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
The goal of the strategy is to double the direct contribution of the land transport and logistics sector to the emirate's economy to AED16.8 billion, increase the rate of technology adoption in the infrastructure by 75%, reduce carbon emissions by 30%, and improve operational efficiency by 10%.
“The strategy focuses on regulating and governing the commercial transport sector in the emirate. It aims to identify developmental and innovative opportunities in the land-based commercial transport and logistics sector and to ensure that the sector's objectives, legislation, and policies are incorporated through various implementable projects and programs. Additionally, it seeks to identify prospects for investment and partnerships with the private sector,”
Al Tayer said.
The Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy, developed with input from various stakeholders, aims to enhance the commercial transport sector's competitiveness. Key objectives include cost efficiency, safety improvements, and modernization through technology adoption. It aligns with RTA's strategic goals by easing business barriers, promoting regulation simplicity, transitioning to zero-emission vehicles, and supporting SMEs. The strategy prioritizes upgrading infrastructure, fleet, and driver performance to prepare for future transport modes.
Dubai's commercial transport sector thrives on e-commerce, with 351,000 registered vehicles and 9,699 companies. It boasts a 34% growth rate over five years, contributing AED 8.5 billion to the economy and creating 242,000 jobs. The Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy aims to enhance competitiveness through digital markets and tech adoption. Seventeen projects, including digital platforms and fleet updates, are planned to support sector growth and efficiency.
Dubai's commercial transport strategy includes projects like tachographs for heavy trucks, autonomous vehicles, and a logistics forum. It aligns with six existing strategies: Traffic Safety, Self-Driving Transport, Zero-Emission Public Transport, Asset, Investment, and Digitization. This integration enhances Dubai's transport sector, fostering safety, innovation, and efficiency.
