Dubai Ports Authority, a subsidiary of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), has successfully completed the first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering operation in Dubai.
This milestone, a first for the region, highlights Dubai’s leadership in sustainable maritime initiatives, aligning with its Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050.
The landmark operation was carried out for the cruise ship Costa Smeralda at Dubai Harbour. It represents a crucial step in advancing sustainable energy solutions and reducing the maritime sector’s carbon footprint. The initiative aligns with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) carbon reduction targets and underscores Dubai’s strategic focus on mitigating climate change and protecting marine ecosystems.
His Excellency Nasser Al Neyadi, Group CEO of PCFC, emphasized the operation's significance in achieving Dubai’s goal of generating 100% of its energy capacity from clean sources by mid-century.
"This milestone reflects our commitment to building a sustainable maritime ecosystem and reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global leader in the maritime industry,”
he stated.
Captain Ibrahim Al Blooshi, CEO of Dubai Ports Authority, elaborated on the regulatory frameworks enabling this achievement, including a comprehensive Fuel Bunkering Regulation.
“The successful completion of this LNG bunkering operation demonstrates our strategic vision to position Dubai as a premier hub for sustainable maritime operations,”
he said.
As Dubai accelerates efforts to achieve carbon neutrality, the Dubai Ports Authority’s focus on innovative fuel solutions and sustainability-driven regulations ensures the emirate remains at the forefront of global maritime advancements.
