Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khalifa University of Science and Technology to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in archaeological excavations in Dubai.
This agreement focuses on the use of advanced technologies at the Saruq Al Hadid and Al Ashoosh sites, aiming to boost research and studies in these areas.
The MoU facilitates ongoing excavation works through remote sensing satellite technology and advanced geophysical survey techniques developed by Khalifa University. These methods will help uncover buried structures, tombs, and remains, and enable researchers to create three-dimensional models of archaeological features within their environmental contexts.
Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, and Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President at Khalifa University, led the MoU signing ceremony at Dubai Culture's headquarters. The meeting, attended by key officials from both organizations, discussed ways to enhance long-term cooperation in scientific research and the use of modern technologies in archaeology.
Muna Faisal Algurg, CEO of the Culture and Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized the importance of collaboration with national academic and research institutions. She stated,
“The archaeological sites in Dubai are a rich source of knowledge, and this partnership with Khalifa University enhances efforts to uncover the history of the Saruq Al Hadid and Al Ashoosh sites. Utilizing advanced technologies allows for further excavation and research, aligning with our commitment to establishing Dubai's position on the global heritage map.”
Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the integration of intelligent systems, machine learning, and remote sensing with Dubai Culture's archaeological expertise. He noted,
“Our partnership aims to contribute to the preservation and promotion of the UAE’s rich cultural heritage.”
