Dubai Culture Concludes ‘Emirati Creatives in Venice Programme’ at Venice Biennale

Dubai Culture has wrapped up its ‘Emirati Creatives in Venice Programme,’ a significant initiative designed to showcase Emirati artistry on a global platform at the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

Supported by the Sikka Platform, the programme reflects Dubai Culture’s commitment to fostering local talent and enabling Emirati artists to engage with international art communities. This year’s Biennale theme, 'Foreigners Everywhere,' offered an inclusive stage for cultural exchange and expression.

Ten talented Emirati artists, including Anood Al Khoori, Fatma Al Mheiri, and Sara Al Khayyal, embarked on a cultural journey, exploring prominent exhibits and venues. Key highlights included a visit to the UAE Pavilion, where they experienced Abdulla Al Saadi’s exhibit ‘Sites of Memory, Sites of Amnesia,’ which captures his creative evolution through UAE’s landscapes. The artists also explored Venice’s cultural landmarks, such as the Doge’s Palace and the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, delving into art forms from Venetian Gothic architecture to contemporary glass installations.

The journey was enriched by workshops and discussions with global art figures, including artist Fabrizio Plessi, who shared insights on the fusion of technology and storytelling in modern art.

Hala Badri, Director-General of Dubai Culture, visited the UAE Pavilion, met with Emirati artists, and engaged with international pavilion directors to discuss cultural collaborations. Badri praised the programme’s role in empowering local artists and underscored Dubai Culture’s dedication to creating a global cultural footprint by supporting Dubai’s evolving art scene and encouraging future creative endeavors.
