Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Dubai Photography Museum was officially launched by H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).

The museum aims to enrich Dubai’s growing museum sector and highlight the global and regional history of photography.

The museum, a collaboration between Dubai Culture and the private sector, will feature an extensive collection of exhibits celebrating both local and international photography talent. It will also provide interactive and educational spaces designed to inspire and engage visitors, showcasing diverse photographic journeys.

In her remarks, Sheikha Latifa emphasized the importance of this new initiative in reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global cultural hub. She highlighted the museum's role in preserving photography’s collective memory and fostering a platform for knowledge exchange.

“The Dubai Photography Museum is a milestone in our commitment to innovation, cultural diversity, and the promotion of arts and culture,”

she stated.

The museum is set to play a key role in supporting Dubai’s creative economy, driving cultural tourism, and offering a space for collaboration between photographers worldwide. As part of Dubai’s Urban Master Plan 2040, the project aligns with the city’s vision to strengthen its cultural and heritage infrastructure.

Next year, Dubai Culture will launch a global architectural competition for the museum’s design, offering a prize of AED 1 million. The museum’s planned facilities will include exhibition spaces, event areas, photography labs, and a library, further solidifying Dubai’s place as a global leader in visual arts and culture.
