The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the launch of the inaugural Dubai Sculpture Symposium 2024, a key event aimed at enhancing Dubai’s visual identity through the medium of sculpture.

Running until 22 December at the Al Shindagha Historic District, the symposium is a major milestone in the emirate’s Public Art Strategy, which seeks to position Dubai as a global cultural hub and an open-air art museum.

The symposium, supporting the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, will feature 15 distinguished sculptors from the UAE, the Gulf region, and around the world, including renowned artists such as Emirati sculptor Azza Al Qubaisi and Syrian artist Aktham Abdul Hamid. The event provides a platform for these international and local talents to exchange ideas, showcase their craft, and raise awareness of the role of public art in enhancing cultural industries.

In addition to live sculpting displays, the symposium will host a series of seminars and panel discussions. Key sessions include topics such as “The Evolution of Public Art,” “Sculpture as Cultural Storytelling,” and “Sculpting for the Environment.” These discussions will delve into the significance of public art, sustainability in sculpture, and the engagement of youth through artistic expression.

Dr. Saeed bin Mubarak Kharbash, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized the symposium’s importance in celebrating sculpture as an authentic expression of human creativity and as a tool for cultural innovation.

The event is organized in partnership with various institutions, including Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children and Al Shindagha Museum, and will also honor outstanding artists for their contributions to the creative fields.
