Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) recently concluded its participation in the 57th Seminar for Arabian Studies organized by the International Association for the Study of Arabia (IASA).
Held at the National Institute of Art History in Paris, the three-day conference aimed to foster dialogue among researchers and academics on the history and civilization of the Arabian Peninsula.
During the event, Dubai Culture showcased its commitment to preserving and promoting Dubai's rich archaeological heritage. The Authority’s delegation presented two significant scientific papers. The first, titled ‘Iron Age Artefacts Hoard discovered at Saruq Al Hadid-53 Archaeological Site, Dubai-UAE,’ was led by Mariam Al Suwaidi, Senior Archaeologist at Dubai Culture. This paper highlighted the discovery of a hoard containing 123 bronze artefacts, offering insights into the area's Iron Age metalworking practices.
The second paper, presented by Zainab Ali Salmin, Senior Archaeological Conservator, focused on conservation methods at Al Qusais and Saruq Al-Hadid Archaeological Sites. It addressed soil corrosivity and its impact on buried metal artefacts, underscoring the challenges and conservation efforts underway.
Bader Mohamed Al Ali, Director of the Antiquities Department at Dubai Culture, emphasized the Authority's dedication to participating in global forums to showcase Dubai's historical significance. He stated,
“Our participation in IASA’s Seminar for Arabian Studies enhances Dubai's global standing and facilitates valuable exchanges with international research institutes.”
Al Ali stressed the importance of such events in enriching academic understanding and preserving cultural heritage.
Dubai Culture’s involvement underscores its strategic goals to highlight the emirate's archaeological treasures and strengthen international partnerships in the field of cultural heritage conservation. The Authority continues to play a pivotal role in preserving Dubai's historical narrative for future generations.
