The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has announced the ninth Reading Box, set to take place from October 9 to 18 at City Centre Mirdif.
This initiative aims to broaden the intellectual horizons of both children and adults, fostering a culture of reading and exploration in line with the National Literacy Strategy 2016–2026.
As part of the School of Life initiative, the event will feature 55 engaging sessions, including poetry evenings and creative workshops. Attendees will have the chance to enhance their knowledge and skills in storytelling, literary writing, and Arabic calligraphy while engaging with a distinguished group of writers, poets, and heritage experts from the UAE and beyond.
Eiman Al Hammadi, Manager of Libraries Affairs Section at Dubai Culture, highlighted the initiative's significance in promoting a reading culture and enhancing community knowledge.
“Reading Box is an innovative platform that spreads the culture of reading, enabling individuals to develop leadership and creative thinking skills,”
she stated.
The programme includes various workshops, such as “What is Home?” by Emirati author Sara Galadari, designed for ages 6 to 9, and a “3D Paper Craft Activity” led by artist Afreen Nizam for ages 7 to 12, focusing on character and landscape design. Additionally, Hazem Kurdali will host an Arabic calligraphy workshop for youth and adults, while Emirati author Ebtisam Al Beiti will guide children aged 3 to 6 through emotions associated with change.
Other notable sessions include nutrition workshops for expecting parents and the “Power of Poetry” panel, featuring renowned Emirati poets discussing poetry's impact on personal expression. The Reading Box promises a vibrant celebration of literature, creativity, and community engagement.
