Dubai Customs has introduced the "Basma (Imprint)" Award, reinforcing the UAE’s "Year of Community" goals, which emphasize skill development, talent nurturing, and fostering innovation.
This initiative aims to promote creativity while raising awareness about intellectual property rights and combating infringements.
The award is structured into two main categories: one for the general public and another for students in schools and universities. By engaging younger generations, the initiative seeks to highlight the dangers of counterfeit goods and the broader health, environmental, and economic consequences of intellectual property violations.
Yousef Ozair Mubarak, Director of the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Department at Dubai Customs, reiterated the organization’s commitment to protecting trademark owners, innovators, and creators. He emphasized Dubai Customs’ continuous efforts to educate the community through workshops, competitions, and awareness campaigns, reinforcing the importance of combating counterfeit goods and illegal trade practices.
Aisha Harib, Senior Officer for Awareness and Education at the IPR Department, announced the inclusion of a new category for the broader public this year, aligning with the "Year of Community." Participants can compete in three categories: social media video campaigns, articles or short stories advocating intellectual property protection, and innovative podcasts exploring intellectual property issues.
Submissions will be accepted until February 17, with content reviews set for March 3-25. Winners will be recognized on April 26 during the World Intellectual Property Day celebrations, with cash prizes awarded. Dubai Customs will also provide expert guidance to all participants, further enhancing knowledge and engagement in intellectual property protection.
