Dubai Customs has launched a project to update its institutional strategic plan for 2026 to 2030, reinforcing Dubai’s ambition to remain a leading global hub for trade, economic growth, and government innovation amid rapid changes in the global customs landscape.
The initiative reflects Dubai Customs’ forward-looking approach as international trade faces fundamental shifts driven by digitalisation, artificial intelligence, evolving supply chains, and the growth of cross-border e-commerce. The updated strategy aims to strengthen trade facilitation, enhance community protection, and support the long-term sustainability of the national economy.
As part of the project, Dubai Customs convened a high-level workshop bringing together department leaders and heads of organisational units. The session focused on global and regional trends shaping the future of customs, potential transformations in trade management, and the development of high-impact initiatives to boost institutional readiness.
Discussions were structured around three key themes. The first examined eight major trends identified through a six-week study, including advanced digital operations, next-generation AI adoption, stronger governance standards, and the expansion of cross-border e-commerce. The second centred on strategic initiatives aligned with Dubai’s economic agenda, with an emphasis on increasing trade value, reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global logistics capital, and accelerating customs clearance processes. The third addressed future indicators to support informed decision-making in the new strategic plan.
His Excellency Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, said the update comes at a pivotal stage of economic expansion driven by innovation and digital infrastructure. He noted that the new plan aligns with Dubai’s D33 agenda and positions artificial intelligence as a core decision-making tool.
Eng Adel Al Suwaidi, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence, added that the project marks a qualitative shift toward future-focused planning, enhancing Dubai’s competitiveness among the world’s leading trade and logistics centres.
