Dubai has launched a strategic initiative to boost traffic flow and support work-life balance across the emirate.

Following approval of the Traffic Flow Plan by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Government Human Resources (DGHR) Department are promoting remote work and flexible hours in both public and private sectors.

Survey data reveals promising trends in the adoption of these policies, with 32% of companies already implementing remote work and 31% offering flexible hours. Encouragingly, 58% of businesses are prepared to expand remote work, and 66% of those not yet using flexible hours are open to implementing it. Flexible work hours and remote work could reduce peak-hour congestion in Dubai by up to 30%, including traffic reductions of 9.8% on Sheikh Zayed Road and 8.4% on Al Khail Road.

Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner General for the Infrastructure, Urban Planning, and Well-Being Pillar, emphasized Dubai’s commitment to developing integrated transport solutions, including expanding public transport, enhancing traffic control, and promoting sustainable travel options.

"RTA’s policies form a comprehensive approach to balance mobility with urban growth,”

he noted, highlighting the push for sustainable transport and increased public transit use.

Abdulla Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, DGHR Director-General, praised the initiative, which aligns with Dubai’s goal of becoming a top global hub for talent. According to recent surveys, flexible hours have positively impacted 87% of Dubai Government employees, enhancing both personal satisfaction and productivity.

The policy underscores Dubai’s vision of a livable, efficient city, advancing employee happiness and community well-being by ensuring safer, more seamless travel across the emirate.
