The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has awarded the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp to 153 hotels in its second cycle, reflecting a 118% increase from last year’s inaugural edition. Launched in July 2023, the initiative recognizes hotels that excel in sustainable practices, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to a greener future.
Recognizing Excellence in Sustainability
The DST Stamp evaluates hotels based on 19 sustainability criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. Independent assessments ensure high environmental standards, with a three-tier recognition system:
- Gold Tier: 18 hotels
- Silver Tier: 64 hotels
- Bronze Tier: 71 hotels
Prominent winners include Atlantis, The Palm; Jumeirah Al Qasr; and Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort & Spa, recognized at an award ceremony on 26 February at Atlantis The Royal. These hotels play a key role in Dubai’s sustainability goals, supporting the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
Driving Dubai’s Green Agenda
Yousuf Lootah, CEO of DET’s Corporate Strategy and Performance, highlighted the initiative’s impact in establishing Dubai as a global leader in sustainable tourism. He commended participating hotels for their commitment to environmental excellence.
Aligned with the UAE’s sustainability vision, the DST Stamp advances initiatives like Dubai Can and DUBAI REEF, reinforcing Dubai’s efforts to cut carbon emissions and strengthen global environmental conservation.
Commitment to Continuous Sustainability
Hotels receiving the DST Stamp must maintain sustainability efforts throughout the one-year certification period, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with Dubai’s green agenda.
