Dubai Duty Free celebrated a landmark achievement in 2024, posting a record annual turnover of AED7.901 billion (US$2.16 billion), bolstered by a strong surge in sales in December.
December set a new monthly sales record of AED821.94 million (US$225.19 million), surpassing the previous high set in December 2023 by 2%. A key contributor to this success was the retailer’s 41st anniversary on 20 December, marked by a 25% discount on a wide range of goods. This promotion generated AED59.99 million (US$16.44 million) in sales within 24 hours.
The year-end success followed a robust November, with year-on-year growth. Confectionery emerged as the top-performing category in December, registering a remarkable 29.46% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
Throughout 2024, Dubai Duty Free processed over 20.733 million sales transactions, averaging 56,649 daily, and sold 55.137 million units of merchandise. An estimated 13.7 million customers shopped at its arrivals and departures stores during the year.
Online sales contributed AED197 million (US$54 million), representing 2.5% of the total annual turnover. Departures accounted for 90% of overall sales, with AED7.121 billion (US$1.951 billion), reflecting a modest 0.84% year-on-year growth. In contrast, arrivals sales fell by 12.21% to AED537 million (US$147 million).
Looking ahead, Dubai Duty Free plans to enhance its retail experience with the final phase of renovations in the arrival shops at all three terminals, set for completion early this year.
