A fee of Dh320 is charged, but it will be given back if the complaint is found to be valid.

Failing the final driving test by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) can be tough, especially if it's not your first attempt. The RTA understands this and sends an encouraging SMS to learners who didn't pass, reminding them that it's not the end of the world and to try again with more experience.

Anyone learning to drive in Dubai knows the high standards and strict rules. Passing the exams takes effort and a bit of luck, so getting the license is a big achievement worth celebrating.

Typically, if you fail a driving test, you'd need to return to the driving school and schedule additional classes before retaking the test. However, did you know you can appeal the result?

If you believe the examiner was unfair, you have the option to challenge the outcome by filing an appeal. This can be done through an online process that usually takes around five minutes.

Here's how:

  • Go to ums.rta.ae and log in with your Emirates ID.
  • Click on the 'Services' tab and choose 'driver and car owner services'.
  • From a list of services that will pop up, select 'Apply for Appealing for Road Test Results'.
  • You'll get a quick overview of the service. Click the 'Apply Now' button and answer a couple of questions.
  • Pay the fees (see below).
  • The RTA will then conduct an investigation.
  • Expect results within five working days.

Fees, terms and conditions

Applicants filing for an appeal must pay a service fee of Dh300 along with a Dh20 "Knowledge and Innovation fee".

However, it's important to apply for this service within two working days from the light vehicle road test appointment, as per the RTA guidelines.

If the investigation finds the applicant's feedback valid, the test result will be amended, and the fees will be refunded.
