Dubai took a significant step towards solidifying its position as a global film production hub with the Dubai Films and Games Commission hosting its first media retreat.
Held at Cinema Akil in 25hours Hotel, the event brought together global production companies, film-makers, government officials, and academic representatives to discuss a roadmap for Dubai’s growing film sector.
The retreat, attended by Mona Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, focused on key strategies to attract major international productions and enhance Dubai’s status in the global film industry. Discussions centered on talent development, infrastructure expansion, regulatory frameworks, and increasing Dubai’s visibility as a preferred filming destination.
Mona Al Marri emphasized the event’s role in shaping Dubai’s long-term vision for the film industry, aligning with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
“By bringing together key stakeholders, the event sought to explore new approaches that can transform the sector, leveraging Dubai’s unique strengths to attract major productions,”
she stated.
Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, highlighted Dubai’s commitment to fostering a world-class media ecosystem.
“We aim to provide film-makers with progressive policies, robust infrastructure, and access to a rich talent pool, making Dubai a unique center for cinematic excellence,”
Badri noted.
Hesham Al Olama, Director of Strategy and Performance Management at the Dubai Media Council, stressed the importance of embracing innovation. The retreat explored emerging technologies and advanced post-production services, further positioning Dubai as a leader in the industry.
Key discussions also revolved around nurturing local talent, enhancing training programs, and fostering collaborations with international studios. The insights generated will shape the Commission’s strategic agenda, ensuring Dubai remains a competitive force in global film production.
